Mastering Twitter’s Tricky Timelines

Written by Zipie | Apr 2, 2019 9:00:21 PM

Let’s call a spade a spade: Twitter is the odd man out when it comes to social media. The platform has struggled with profitability and has rolled out several algorithms over the years. Favored by politicians and media outlets alike, Twitter is the place to be when it comes to providing real-time content (see: Zipie’s live tweets of Super Bowl LIII). So, how can Twitter be useful for your business? Let’s break it down.Header: What you need to know

Twitter’s timeline varies from user to user. In 2016, the platform introduced their Algorithmic Timeline that pushed what Twitter saw as relevant content to the top of your timeline. Later, they announced the ability to switch in and out of a chronological to the algorithmic timeline, giving users more flexibility and choice. Around the same time, Twitter upped their character allowance from 140 to 280.

Because time is central to users’ success on Twitter, tweet when your followers are online. Visibility means relevance. Users will continue to see your tweets long after you’ve posted if its viewership is up.

Engage with followers. Like Instagram* and Facebook*, engagement is king. The more you interact with followers, the further the algorithm will propel your tweets to the tops of timelines. Be a people person.
